Finely modeled depiction of the ‘mother of buddhas’
Delicate ivory color
Seated on a high lotus flower
Dressed in a richly pleated garment
The numerous arms frame the figure and various attributes are visible in the hands
The hands carry symbols of the skilful means of an important Buddhist lifestyle
The finely worked hair is bound in a high topknot and is crowned by a crown with Amitayus
Embellished with a delicately pearl necklace around the neck
Serene facial features with half-closed eyes

Cundi
Cundi, known in China as ?? Zhunti, can be translated as ‘extreme purity’ and is a Buddha or Bodhisattva of the Mahayana Buddhism. The deity is known as a Bhagavati or ‘Mother of the Buddhas’, especially in esoteric Buddhism, and is often equated with the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.
Condition: The Cundi figure is in good condition with slight signs of age. Small nicks and restorations on the fingers and the attributes are visible. The height measures 45 cm.
