ENGLISH SHIPBOARD BAROMETER, MAINE SEA CAPT ASSOCIATED - "Improved Sympiesometer" by C.H. & C. Cowland, Sunderland, with lacquered brass register plates, mercury thermometer, tube with sliding weather scale, calibrated dial for recording air pressure, and glazed mahogany trunk with beveled glass. 18 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/4". Good condition. Marked long ago on back "This belonged to Capt. L.P. Heald, Rockport, Maine" and typed "Penobscot Marine Museum" label. Maine Courier-Gazette column from February, 1903: "Schoner (sic) Hattie C. Luce was in collision with schooner John R. Buttrick, and Capt. Lucien P. Heald was drowned."
