SPANISH COLONIAL LIFE-SIZED SANTOS - Late 17th/early 18th c. Carved, Gessoed, Polychromed and Gilded Wood Sculpture of a tonsured monk in a cape, his hands clasped in prayer, glass eyes downcast. The main body is carved from a single section of a tree trunk, hollowed out from the rear, in the traditional style. The face and hands were carved separately and applied. 54" tall, on small integral plinth. Toes missing from left foot, separation at wrists and edge of face, losses to paint, earlier gilding evident under some paint.
