BRITISH SAMPLER - Fine Needlework Sampler by Elizabeth Thompson, Flintham (Nottinghamshire, East Midlands), Aged 12 years, 1840, with decoration of a brick manse, a pair of doves, a basket of flowers and geometric floral border. Poem reads "On an early snow-drop: Tell me, thou sage, how yonder flower, To life and light has burst its way, When ten long months beneath the ground, Unsunn'd its embryo petals lay, Then will I teach thee how this clay, From death's long slumber can awake, And to eternal life renew'd, Its robe of heavenly beauty take". In mahogany stick frame, glazed. OS: 16 3/4" x 14 1/4", SS: 16" x 13 1/2". Fine condition.
