AMERICAN AND ENGLISH IRONSTONE TEAPOTS, LOT OF FOUR, comprising three rounded-cube-form examples with spout in an upper corner, a white example, and a brown example with pink lid, both by Hall, and a floral example by Royal Crownford, and a weighted-ironstone marbled brown globular tea-for-one, with blue and pink bands to the upper body, English. The first three designed for use on ships. Circa 1940 and later. 4 5/8" HOA.
Provenance: Property from a New York private collection.
Catalogue Note: First patented in 1917, designer Robert Crawford Johnson (1882-1937) designed the cube teapot to prevent tipping and dripping on ships ay sea. The design was a huge success, with Cunard lines and others ordering examples for use on board their ships. Later, the design was popular at tea houses and luncheonettes.
