American Revolutionary War Official Payment & Loan Act of Congress Printed in Philadelphia 1783
1783, Printed Pamphlet from the American Revolution, entitled, "Table for the Payment of Principal & Interest of Loans, agreeable to the Resolutions of Congress of the Twenty-eight day of June, 1780.” Philadelphia, Printed by Robert Aitken, Three Doors above the Coffee House, in Market Street,” Choice Extremely Fine.
Evans 17049. This is one of the most important American Revolutionary War fiscal related items we have ever had the pleasure to offer. It is the exceedingly rare, original printed document, entitled, "Table for the Payment of Principal & Interest of Loans, agreeable to the Resolutions of Congress of the Twenty-eight day of June, 1780.” Philadelphia, Printed by Robert Aitken, 24 pages, 8.75” x 5.5,” in remarkably high quality, being later placed within thick paper marbled wraps with blue endpapers. There is a historic inked notation on first inside cover page which reads: "Little Johnne Congress, Scale of Depreciation from 1 Septem. 1777 to the 18th March 1780 David Wolfe”. This printed Act of Congress reads, in part:
“In Congress, June 28th, 1780 - Whereas Congress, on the eighteenth day of April last, resolved ... therefore resolved, that the principal of all loans, that have been made to these United States, shall finally be discharged, by paying the full current value of the bills when loan…”
This very handsome and exceedingly rare printed pamphlet is regarding the value of the American Continental Currency issues and Interest of the various Bonds and fiscal loans by the Continental Congress and their related interest payments. The interest value of One Hundred Dollars in Specie, and it’s interest from 1777 for each day of the month up through 1780 is shown, page after page, after page. This is part of the, "Table for the Payment of Principal & Interest of Loans, agreeable to the Resolutions of Congress of the Twenty-eight day of June, 1780.” The inclusion of David Wolfe’s personal inscription makes this an even more important museum quality treasure which is exceedingly important to the historic finances of the American Revolution.
