Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 1400 BCE - 400 BCE, and Moche, ca. 100 BCE- 100 CE. Four Chavin and Moche fine camelid bone carvings. From left to right, we begin with a flute carved in the form of a human hand. Next, we have a larger flute with several finger holes to produce a variety of musical sounds suspended by the original fiber work. Note the meticulous design work with its seemingly boundless circular motif. Then we have a scoop with equally intricate incised decoration used by the ancients for partaking in the use of hallucinogenic substances. Last but certainly not least a handle that assumes the form of the Andes. It too is painstakingly carved with richly varied geometric motifs. These artifacts exhibit exceptional technique and artistry! Custom Lucite stand. These range in size from 4" to 7" H.
