Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 1400 BCE - 400 BCE. A fine stone vessel carved from dense black stone, with serpentine Janus-headed figures slithering around vessel, their double heads emerging at rim, turquoise inlays highlighting their deeply incised bodies and net background. 2-3/8" D by 1-3/4" H. The finest of the type we have ever seen!
