Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manta region, ca. 500 BCE - 500 CE. This terracotta ichtyomorphic (fish) grater was used for removing fish scales and/or ritualistic purposes. One side is covered with carefully placed stones for grating, while the other side is painstakingly incised with a pictograph of a coatimundi masked fisherman with a spear. Fish and other related objects are delineated throughout. Impressive example! 6"L x >2-1/2"W
