East Java is located on Ancient Maritime Ceramic Road of China. Historically, East Java was the political center of Majapahit Empire. Majapahit was a vast archipelagic empire based on the island of Java (modern-day Indonesia). In 1292 the Majapahit dynasty began an empire that was to dominate the entire archipelago, the Malay peninsula and part of the Philippines, consisting of present day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, Sulu Archipelago, Manila, and East Timor. Majapahit was one of the last major empires of the region and is considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful empires in the history of Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Majapahit also established profitable trade relations with China and other countries of the South East Asian region.
