Description
Lot of 3 S. Kirk Sterling Silver Repousse Serving Pieces. Including a 8 1/2 long cold meat serving fork, a 9 3/4 pie server with stainless blade and a 7 long cream ladle. All in very good condition. Samuel Kirk apprenticed as a silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before opening his own shop in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1815. Kirk was known for his sterling silver repoussé work, in which shapes and designs are hammered into a flat piece of metal, such as silver, from behind rather than the front, which is a technique known as chasing. Provenance: From the estate of the Chisholm family, a noted old Charleston family.
