18 traditional hunting weapons from Oceania with intricately crafted tips
The spears have long, thin cylindrical shafts made of bamboo, ending in a variety of fine tips. Some are barbed or with multiple prongs and decorated with rattan bindings. In addition the group includes two long lances carved in wood.
The numerous island nations of Oceania used spears of this kind primarily for fishing or pig hunting. Some would also be used in ritual dances to beat a rhythm against the shield.
The spears are in good condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use. The length ranges from 96 to 242 cm. (tfa)
