Pottery vessel in shape of a bird
The present pre-Columbian stirrup vessel was made by a representative of the Moche culture, active in phase IV between 200 and 400 AD. The surface of the pottery is nicely burnished and shows a deep orange and red surface. The stirrup arches gracefully from back to behind the head in shape of a bird and is topped by a straight spout. The bird form vessel most probably represents a condor.
The vessel is in good condition considering the age. The material shows minor restorations around the beak and a number of tiny superficial losses of material. The corpus of the vessel measures c. 11 cm in diameter. (cbo)
