Early, anthropomorphic mask, finely modeled and painted
This very beautiful and masterfully hand modeled maskette was made by the Mexican Tlatilco Culture. The almond-shaped, slightly slanted eyes with perforated pupils, form a beautiful ensemble with the finely modeled, red painted nose and mouth. Both cheeks are decorated with crescent-shaped, red painted beads which are incised. They probably symbolize tattoos.
The maskette is in good condition and shows only in the lower right major material losses. The entire face shows traces of paint and is perforated on both sides above the ears and on the forehead. The diameter measures 9 cm. (tfa)
