Description
A Large Chinese Bronze Censer with Cloisonne, 19th century, a large gui form on a tall flaring base with opposing dragon handles, domed lid with a tongshi lion with its paw on an "embroidered" bronze ball, lid inlaid with auspicious cloisonne characters of fu, lu, and shou, or happiness, prosperity, and longevity, these characters are separated by three taotie masks, these taotie are repeated on the body of the gui between two bands of cloisonne depicting multicolored archaic taotie, more cloisonne on the tall foot ring depicting archaic stylized animals and teeming hooks, the lower portion of the foot ring decorated by "S" coils, with four character mark to base, property of the consignor since the 1960's, from a Watchung, New Jersey collector, approx. 42 by 30 cm, 16 1/2 by 11 3/4 in.
