The signature of „Milton H. Greene” was not executed in black pen, but printed. Both prints were authenticated by his son ‘Joshua Greene’, who signed in pencil on verso.

This photograph is a work by the American photographer Milton H. Greene, who is best remembered for his friendship and business relationship with Marilyn Monroe. During the ten years that they worked together, Greene photographed Marilyn in countless sessions, as for example the ‘Ballerina Series’ of this photograph. In 1954, a photograph of Marilyn dressed in a tutu was chosen by Time Life as one of three of the most popular images of the 20th century. This is a Modern Fine Art Inkjet Print on Hahnemühle Albrecht Dürer paper.



The print is signed right below the depiction in black pen ‘Milton H. Greene’. The print is verso hardly legible signed in pencil ‘… Greene’. Verso are the copyright stamp with the numbering ‘ED# Ex 3’ and the dating ‘3-14-03’. The photograph is in very good condition. The frame shows slight traces of wear. The depiction measures 101.5 x 101.5 cm, the sheet is 109 x 109 cm in size and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 112 x 112 cm.



Milton H. Greene (1922-1985)

Milton H. Greene began taking photographs at the age of 14. He apprenticed with the photojournalist Elliot Elisofen and assisted Louise Dahl-Wolfe. He received first recognition and was known as the ‘color photography wonder boy’ at the age of 23. In the 1940s and 1950s, he was mainly working as a fashion photographer. In the 1950s and 1960s, he created increasingly portraits of famous personalities. A ten year partnership with Marilyn Monroe followed with the production company Marilyn Monroe Productions to control the actress’s work. Greene created about 53 series of Marilyn in total. (tm)
