Mario Giacomelli (1925-2000)

Mario Giacomelli was raised as the eldest of three brothers in Senigallia. His father died very early and to support the family he left school at the age of 13 to train as a typesetter and printer. He owned his own print shop where he worked his entire life and he photographed only in his leisure time. He worked mainly in series and the majority of his photographs show the closer environment of his hometown Senigallia. Therefore, he spent some time in each place so that the residents could get used to him. Only then he would take his camera along with him. In 1995, he received the Kulturpreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photographie. (tm)
