Max Vadukul has a lifelong affinity with black and white photography. The present print reveals an intimate view into Amy Winehouse’s bed on her wedding day. That the British singer and songwriter chose to be clothed takes nothing away from the seduction of her pose, dramatizing the challenge of many prominent stars of the twenty-first century, when deciding on what to present and what to protect in the course of their stardom. The picture was published across two pages in the 2007 June issue of the Rolling Stone, underlining the heading ‘The Diva and Her Demons’.



The print has been made on Fuji Color Professional paper and is signed with blue felt tip at the lower left ‘Max Vadukul‘. The work is in very good condition and shows only a few faint handling marks. The image size is 29 x 43.7 cm and the size of the sheet measures 30.5 x 45 cm.



Max Vadukul (b. 1961)

Vadukul was born in Kenya and grew up in London. He is well-established among the photographers, who are regularly commissioned by the most important international fashion magazines, such as the New York Times Style Magazine and Vogue. Between 1996 and 2000 Vadukul was appointed staff photographer of the New Yorker and portrayed hundreds of international stars such as Mother Theresa, Al Gore, Mick Jagger and Donald Trump. Besides, Vadukul also established himself in the field of advertising photography and created a number of very successful campaigns, including projects for Chloe, Armani and Emanuel Ungaro. Vadukul has lived in London and Paris and currently resides in Manhattan, together with his wife, the eminent fashion editor Nicoletta Santoro. (cbo)
