This is a photograph by the Swiss photographer Michel Comte. It depicts the side profile of the Spanish actress Penélope Cruz. It was created in 2001, when the actress was 27 years old. Comte steadily aims at creating pictures of great proximity that allow the observer to get a personal impression of the portrayed sitter.

Michel Comte (b. 1954)

Michel Comte apprentices as a restorer before working at Bruno Bischofsberger Gallery in Zurich. Then he started working as a photographer for the fashion designer Hannes B. One of his most famous photographs is a portrait of Carla Bruni. The original photograph was sold at an auction at Christie’s in 2008 for €50,000. In addition, he portrayed celebrities such as George Clooney and Sophia Loren. He was commissioned advertisement campaigns for some of the biggest fashion brands in the world.
