This low talismanic bowl was crafted in 951 Hijra (= 1544 AD) in the Middle East. The bowl is cast of brass with omphalos and flat base ring. It is covered with engravings on the entire surface, inside and outside. Bowls of this kind were said to have a ‘magical’ effect. As a general rule, they were filled up with water that was then drunken. This then was to for example protect from diseases or healing effects, to abandon infertility or ward off evil. The applying effect would be indicated in inscriptions or arcane symbols on the decoration of the bowl.
The bowl is in very good condition. It is 19 cm in diameter. (tm)
