Item Details

Description

Set of four demitasse cups and saucers from the 43’ sloop, “Marigold”. Cup is 2 1/4” high, saucer is 4 3/4” diameter. Cup is stamped D & C (Doulton & Co.) France for Higgins and Seiter of Newark which would make the production of the pottery itself to be prior to 1901. Porcelain is white with nautical blue stripes on the cup handle, the mouth of the cup and the edge of the saucer as well as the center. “Marigold” was owned by Frank Drake of the Marblehead Yacht Club and was built by B. B. Crowninshield (1867 - 1948) of the famous Crowninsheild family of Massachusetts.
