Description
A rare Chimu-Inca bottle from Peru, ca. 1300 – 1500 AD. This beautiful stirrup bottle is 7-3/8 in high and depicts a pair of eagles and large cups. The Fineline style painting is an adaptation from earlier Moche artisans, yet the meaning of the iconography appears different. In this case the eagles are depicted in flight over the bowls, whereas in Moche renditions they are clearly depicted drinking (blood) from the cups. In excellent condition. Ex Pachenko collection.
