Description
Serial No. 5590. The factory indicates that this gun was sent to J.P. Moore of NYC on August 4th, 1875 in a shipment of 43 of this type gun and listed as a 30 caliber and note to short referring to the 1 ¾” barrel. It was sent with rosewood grips in nickel. It was then most likely fitted up in a green leatherette French fitted case, pearl grips added and a push dagger with similar style pistol grip pearl handled stamped with a matching serial number by the Moore company which was quite common at the time. The gun retains virtually all of the original factory nickel with a near perfect etched panel. The bore is strong but frosty. The pearl grips are flawless and the gun works perfectly. The knife has been sharpened and its pearl grips have some minor cracks and are a bit loose. The case is definitely of the period of the guns and this set has been together forever. There was a small brass badge inside that says Colts Firearms Inspector 497 but cannot attest to the authenticity of this piece and when it was put in the set.
