Item Details
Description
Arthur Neu contributed a chapter to "Fishing for Trout and Salmon" edited by Ray Schrenkeisen. Published in 1937 by Doubleday, Doran & Co. Mr. Theodore Roosevelt III, son of the President worked for the publishing company and was a driving force in getting the book published, VG+ in tattered dj. Included in this offering is a Signed copy of the book by Mr. Roosevelt to a Mr. Warren praising Art Nue in the inscription. The book would later become the property of Mr. Neu. Also included in this offering is a form letter from Mr. Roosevelt publicizing the book, a photograph of Art Neu fishing, seven letters from the publishers discussing changes to the book and the other personalities involved such as Ray Holland and William Schaldach. Letters with folds, else all VG+.

It is well documented in Cliff Netherton's books on the history of the sport of casting that Mr. Neu was a great casting champion. Although his books only show a partial list of casting competitions in the United States beginning at the turn of the twentieth century, some of Mr. Nue's accomplishments are plentiful. Legends are made up of many parts but for Mr. Neu it seemed he had in his lifetime acquired nearly all of them. His talent is without question but more importantly it is the respect of his peers, such as Theodore Roosevelt (Jr.), Herbert Hoover. Eugene Connett, also mentioned in a letter and from abroad the Honorable Secretary of the British Casting Association, C. Copley Singleton, who so warmly inscribes their 1937 Handbook to him. It is also the small monument that still stands in Stephens State Park in Hackettstown, NJ and erected in 1943 in his honor after his death in 1941 for what he gave back to the sport. He taught many the art of casting and his undying dedication to conservation. Legends shouldn't be only about their talent they are able to exhibit but how they made a difference with their status, for future generations to enjoy. Mr. Neu was without question a legend.
