Description
Handsome high glaze vase with seven unfurled yellow irises carved and painted by Marie Levering Benson in 1908. The stems of the flowers rise from the base at a slight angle giving us a bit of movement. Marks include the Newcomb College logo, the date code for 1908 (CN 77), impressed Q for buff clay, impressed monogram of potter Joseph Meyer and the incised and blue tinted monogram of the artist. Height 12 3/8 inches. Excellent original condition with faint crazing. The carving and yellow color are a nice bonus.
