Description
Rookwood bowl with a rendition of an Uncle Remus story, the work of Edward P. Cranch in 1888. The decoration shows Brer Coon and Brer Possum and has the notation “Brer Coon & Brer Possum. I aint runin’ wid no cowerds dese days, sez Br Coon. sezzee; wen I wants you I’ll sen feyou sezzee”. The bottom is impressed with the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 87, an impressed G for Ginger clay, and incised with the date, Mr. Cranch’s initials and “Uncle Remus plantation tales”. There are a couple of tiny scratches on the interior of the bowl. Size is 1 1/8 inches high and 6 3/8 inches in diameter.
