Epoo was active in community affairs but is little known as an artist. This beautiful work is unusual in that both mother and child are unclothed. A similarly sized and equally accomplished Hunter and Bear by Epoo dating from the same period can be seen in George Swinton’s first book Eskimo Sculpture (M&S 1965) p. 104.
