High quality Cartier watch from one of the pioneers of watchmaking

This Cartier men’s wristwatch ‘Santos Rondes’ features an automatic movement and is made of 18 karat yellow gold. The screwed watch case with a sapphire cabochon to the crown is water-resistant. The cream-colored dial has black Roman numerals and a Chemin-de-fer chapter ring. The blued hands indicate the hour, minutes and seconds. The clock also features a date display. The watch case is fitted with a link bracelet and a folding clasp.

The clock is in good condition, showing light wear. During a short-term test, the watch was fully functional, but long-term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed. The dimensions of the watch case, including the lugs, are 46 x 35 cm, and the height measures 7.4 mm. The circumference of the bracelet is 17 cm when closed, and the overall weight of the clock is c. 141.3 grams. The clock ships with the original box and papers.

The exclusive French jeweler and watch company Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 and gained international renown in 1904 with the ‘Santos de Cartier’, a wristwatch created for the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. A further milestone in the history of modern watchmaking was the introduction of the Tank watch in 1917, which was inspired by British First World War tanks. The typical Panthère motif was first introduced in 1914 with a women's watch, in 1935 with a ring for the Duchess of Windsor and was later transformed into the famous jewelry series ‘Panthère de Cartier’. The theme was significantly developed by Jeanne Toussaint, nicknamed ‘La Panthère’, who was the creative director of Fine Jewelry from 1933 and as a metaphor of femininity the panther remains an icon of the House of Cartier.
