Song of the Herder Original vintage cinema poster for a Soviet film, Song of the Herder. Produced by Mosfilm Studios in 1956. Poster design by N. Khomov and printed in 1957. Elegant musical image of a singer wearing tails in front of a grand piano with a portrait of a girl in the background. Striking use of colours on yellow background. Buryat-Mongolian farm sends a young talented singer Tumen Zhargalova study in Moscow. In his native village boy leaves his beloved, the beautiful Seseg. The girl promises to wait for his return. Arriving in Moscow, Tumen thoughtlessly gives home a telegram saying that he was a student at the conservatory. But without knowledge of the musical notation and regardless of his marvelous and powerful voice he fails the exam. He spends the night sleeping at conservatory and ends up at the police station. His strong voice enthralls Major Bugrov, an amateur singing enthusiast. Tumen became a soloist of the amateur choir and a police sergeant, learning to read music in his spare time.
