A Macedonian Orthodox Christian icon, created ca. 1850, depicting the Archangel Michael with many of his attributes. The angel, painted against a gold ground, carries a balance to measure human souls, an orb representing the world, a sword and armor indicating his role as a warrior and a scroll inscribed in Church Slavonic Language. The figure's features and wings are delicately modeled in the style of the followers of the Tresonce holy artist Dico Zograf (Macedonia, 1819-1873), although the particular artist is unknown. This icon was purchased in Macedonia and exported legally; relevant documentation is available.
