Description
A framed woodcut by famed Spanish Surrealist artist Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989) for an illustrated version of "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. This illustration was for Canto 3 of "Paradise," Piccarda Donati. This is 1 of 100 illustrations that Dali made for the book. They were originally executed as watercolors, and then converted to wood blocks prints with the help of expert printers. Recorded in Dali's catalogue raisonne of graphic work, no. 254. Spain/France, 1950s (published in the early 1960s); signed lower right "Dali." Dimensions: Image: approx. 7-1/8" W x 9-1/2" H; Sheet: approx. 10-1/4" W x 13" H; Frame: approx. 15-3/4" W x 18-3/4" H x 2" D.
Condition
In good condition, some spotting stains on upper and lower edge of sheet. Frame in fair condition, some chipping to painted finish.
