Description
A rare complete portfolio of signed lithographs by fourteen New Jersey artists, created to support US Senator Eugene McCarthy's 1968 anti-Vietnam War campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. The opening sheet presents a poem, "Fall 1961," by Robert Lowell as an epigraph and introduces the portfolio. The following fourteen sheets include prints of a variety of subjects including figures, grids and nudes, all hand-signed in pencil or crayon by the artists Richard Anuskiewicz, Carmen Cicero, Leo Dee, Joseph Demarais, John Goodyear, James Kearns, Jacob Landau, Stefan Martin, George Ortiman, Pat Pickering, Gregorio Prestopino, Jean Schonwalter, George Segal, and Herbert Steinberg. Issued in a run of 250 by New Jersey Volunteers for McCarthy, numbered 39 in pencil on the opening page. United States, 1968; marked. Dimensions: each sheet is approx. 16" H x 13" W, closed portfolio overall is approx. 17" H x 13-1/4" W x 3/4" D.
Condition
Very good overall, light wear to the corners of some sheets.
