Item Details
Description
The AEAA is extremely proud to present this next fine lot of vintage ca. 1960-2000 Vaseline animal figurines / paperweights, from the large & diverse 30+ year collection of Mr. Loren “Butch” Morse of Yukon, Oklahoma. The estate contains regular and miniature blown examples from Fenton, Viking, Boyd, Degenhart, Mosser, and others. These fine examples represent marked Boyd Crystal Art Glass (2) 1970s & 2000 canines in the 1.25 inch tall bulldog, and 3 inch tall Custard Glass Boyd Pooch figures. We also have a splendid Boyd 2000, Taffy Carousel Horse @ 2.25 inches tall. The total weight of these great figures is 11 oz. and the molds are excellent. These are great for any Vaseline collection. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Vaseline glass animals became available from Giant glass houses such as Duncan Miller, Heisey, Hocking / Lancaster and others from the early 1920s, with one of the first being a special rocking horse blotter from Houze. Many American glass makers were involved with animal figurines in the 1930s, but, by the end of 1942, the War Powers scope was expanded with the drafting of the Hazardous Materials Act, which banned any and all use of rare earth and radioactive materials, reserving them specifically for the U.S. Government / Defense Department. This act obviously included Uranium Oxide, which literally exploded in luminescence under a black light. In early 1959, the act was rescinded, and Fenton became the first glass house in America to re-introduce their complete Topaz Opalescent Hobnail Vaseline Glass formula by July of that year. Shortly thereafter, Fostoria Glass introduced its dynamic Vaseline Heirloom line. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Mr. Loren Morse was a loving family man, and also a well-known and respected member of the Vaseline Glass collecting community. His untimely passing a year ago was a blow to everyone, and we have very humbly accepted the commission to place his treasures in good homes. The Morse family gratefully appreciates your participation in this Estate sale, and wishes you all safe & prosperous Thanksgiving + Christmas seasons.
