All of our Fostoria Heirloom pieces, including this one, are in Excellent+ condition. Though only produced from 1959-1962, the Yellow Opalescent was finished in a great many shapes, and is the most valuable of any of the Fostoria Heirloom colors. Most Fostoria Glass Heirloom patterns are photographed on pp.260-270 of Fostoria Tableware The Crystal For America 1944 – 1986 book. Pricing can be found on pp.82-83 of The Fostoria Value Guide. Both books are written by Milbra Long & Emily Seate. Fostoria was the second company to introduce Vaseline glass back into the American way of life, shortly following the Fenton Art Glass Co. in 1959. Although the freeform style of the Heirloom line items was produced from 1959 /1960 to 1970, by far the most desirable are the Fostoria Uranium formulas, ONLY produced from 1959 to the autumn of 1962. To this day, the grace & beauty of Yellow Opalescent Fostoria glass stands at the head of the table, and no Vaseline collection is complete without at least 2 or 3 unique examples. Be sure to bid early and add this outstanding Fostoria glass piece to your personal collection! ***** Weight : 2# 3 oz. *** Measurements: 11x7.25x4 *****xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. HISTORY: The Fostoria Glass Company began operations in Fostoria, Ohio, on December 15, 1887. The town was chosen because abundant natural gas was available at a very low cost. Unfortunately, due to the influx of industry into the surrounding area, the natural gas field quickly began to peter out. Consequently, in 1891, Fostoria moved to Moundsville, West Virginia, where there was an abundance of gas and coal, and all other needed materials were in close proximity.Until approximately 1900, Fostoria made pressed or formed glass. Market demands changed, and by ~ 1908, Fostoria was actively pursuing the U.S. blown glass market. By ca. 1950, Fostoria was the largest maker of handmade glassware in the United States, employing nearly 1000 people, with production peaking in 1950-1951 when Fostoria finished between 8,000,000 & 9,000,000 pieces of glass. Fostoria again moved to the fore in 1959, with its introduction of the Heirloom Line, the blown, ribbed, formed, & stretched Opalescent family which continues a successful run until 1970. Heirloom is found in the colors persimmon orange, sunny yellow, pink, Fostoria’s own medium green and a classic French Opalescent white. The fabled American pattern, originally from 1915, is still being produced by the Lancaster Colony, who bought Fostoria in 1983, making it the longest running pattern in the history of glass making. xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
