This lot comprises one bottle of 1945 vintage Riesling Goldbeerenauslese produced by Eugen Wirth from the Niersteiner Fritzenhölle vineyard in Rheinhessen.
Rheinhessen, also known as Rhine-Hesse in English, is not only one of the largest German winegrowing regions in terms of surface area, it’s also the most dynamic winegrowing region in Germany. Rheinhessen can be divided into two parts with different winegrowing traditions. First of all, there is the Rheinterasse with its famous vineyards that lie directly on the River Rhine, such as Oppenheim, Nierstein and Nackenheim. For centuries, these places have been associated with powerful, dry and sweet Riesling growths. On the red hillside, mineral Rieslings thrive on the reddish clay slate floor, known as Rotliegend. It is the epitome of what the Rhine previously termed a “classic of the wine world”. However, when we speak of Rheinhessen, we usually mean the hilly backcountry: a large, flat expanse of vineyards including Wonnegau and Bingen, in which, alongside agriculture, winegrowing has been a great tradition since late antiquity. For a good decade, a young generation of vintners have set about transforming the agricultural establishments into innovative wine estates. Their intuition and ambition, openness and passion is producing some of the best dry Rieslings and white Burgundies in all of Germany.
The fill level is excellent (< 2 cm). The label is soiled and damaged; the capsule is in perfect condition.
