Richard Müller (1874-1954)

At the age of 14, Richard Müller began a training at the art school of the Royal porcelain manufactory in Meissen. After one and a half years, he dropped out of education in order to apply to the Art Academy in Dresden, where he was accepted and initially studied under Leonard Gey, and later under Leon Pohle. Max Klinger, who Müller met in Dresden, motivated him to deal with the technique of etching, thus giving impetus to an extensive graphic work. Müller's first large etching ‘Adam und Eva’ 1898 was honored by the Academy with the Prix de Rome. 1899 Müller took a teaching position at the Dresden Academy, from 1903 on he held a professorship.
