Author: Newton, A. Edward
Illustrated by Gluyas Williams. 9¼x5¾, cloth-backed patterned boards, paper spine label. No. 17 of 500 copies. First Edition.
Presentation copy from Newton to Flodden W. Herron, a San Francisco book collector and one of the founders of the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco. "Flodden W. Herron Esq. In exchange for figs I send you thistles, but it is all I have. With the salutations of A. Edward Newton, Nov. 27, 1930" on front free endpaper. Accompanied by an original drawing by Gluyas Williams, which appears on p. 27 of the book (Newton gesturing towards a man carrying many bags), with an inscription by Newton beneath the image "Flodden W. Harron, this portrait of Eddie Newton, Christmas 1931." The drawing is initialed by Williams. The drawing is housed in a custom-made folder, and the book and folder are in a custom-made double-slicase. The book has many pencil underlinings to the text, evidently by Herron.
Place Published: Boston
Publisher Name: Little, Brown
Date Published: 1930

Condition report
