The airplane was shot down over the territory of China. The monument was set up at Svetlanskaya str. Zharikov Public Garden. On July 27, 1953 a Soviet passenger airplane Il-12 flying over territory of China on approved route from Port Arthur was attacked by 4 US fighters who invaded the Chinese airspace in several hours after the armistice in Korean War. 15 passengers and 6 crewmembers on board were killed. Their ashes were delivered to Vladivostok and consigned to the earth. On July 26, 1955 a monument by design of M. Andronnikov was mounted. It is an obelisk that looks like a massive cylindrical column, crowned by bronze capital and mounted on truncated pyramid shaped pedestal. There is a bronze sculpture composition consisting of 4 banners and a pentagonal star in the laurel wreath on the capital. Lower part of the column is girdled with a low relief consisting of cartouches, oak wreaths and torches. The names of the killed people and the date of the attack are inscribed in the cartouches. The monument on the coin is imaged against the background of the falling IL 12 Reverse Coat of Arms of Vladivostok.
