Description
A very rare George Jones Majolica ‘Horace’ cobalt teapot in the Japanese style c.1875, 6 ½”. This teapot, the only known example, is illustrated in ‘Majolica’ Nicholas Dawes, page 120 and is thought to be designed by the son of George Jones, ‘Horace’, who studied at the Government School of Design. The teapot modeled in the manner of Japanese influenced electroplated teapots by Christopher Dresser, See ‘Christopher Dresser’, Widar Halen, Phaidon-Christies Limited, 1990, pages 145-160’ and for a discussion on Dresser and George Jones see ‘Christopher Dresser 1834-1904’, Christopher Morley, Beresford 2010.
