Description
An excellent quality very large Minton Majolica pineapple pitcher c.1875, modeled as a yellow glazed pineapple with the green leaves forming the spout and handle. Minton produced this design in 8 eight different sizes, this being the rarest and largest size, 9 ¼”. Rare, exotic, and hard to grow, pineapples were a symbol of great status and wealth in Victorian times. A pineapple on your dining table meant you were a person of discernment, style, and affluence. The pineapple, which often would grace the centre of a dining table centerpiece, became to symbolize hospitality and good cheer. For an illustration of a green glazed Minton pineapple pitcher, see Nicholas Dawes p.84.
