Description
A very rare and important "Star of David" American Etruscan Majolica water pitcher and soap dish with insert, 1875, provenance Ana Stern Collection. Only two known. Pitcher 11 ½”h, soap dish 4 ¾”d. Designed as a large round mottled blue and yellow bellied pitcher with brown handle, all decorated with Aesthetic Movement style geometric design. The round soap dish and lid with blue and yellow mottle glazes decorated with geometric style designs, and a pierced handle in the form of the Star of David forming the handle. These two pieces represent an interesting example of early America Judaica from a time when other such items would have been produced in Europe. Examples of American Judaica in any material from this period would be very rare.
