An extremely Rare and Important Charles Avisseau Palissy Ware teapot c.1855. (lacking cover) Modeled as a beautifully sculpted Ivy clad tree trunk, with a branches forming the spout and handle with a snake climbing to the top of the trunk. Signed: Charles Avisseau together with a plaque bearing Avisseau’s Monogram. Jean Charles Avisseau of Tours, France is recognized as the Master of Art of the Earth’ 19th Century Palissy Ware and is recognized by historians as the potter who rediscovered Bernard Palissy’s 16th Century secrets. Avisseau’s work was exhibited at many of the International Exhibitions, including the Great Exhibition of 1851.
