Smoky quartz. China, Qing Dynasty 19th cent.
Very elaborate work, the little bottle is encircled with free standing pomegranate branches. Light brown, smoky, transparent mineral, oval base ring and form with defined shoulders. On the three dimensional pierced branches are leaves and fruit, as also shown on the arched lid. The pomegranate shiliu is a symbol of fertility promising many boys and therefore luck. Spoon of ivory.
