Description
Yellow bronze. India, approx. 18. to 19. cent.
Elephant-headed Ganesha is indeed the most beloved god in India worshipped by Buddhists. He is the conqueror of all obstacles and and is the patron of science. In his four hands are (from top left) throned rod, shell, sweets (which he tastes with his trunk) and a small lotus blossom. This and the bud-shaped cap on his head are unusual, possibly a bronze made for Buddhists. Below his trunk in a small Naga. Ganesha sits on a square base. Very good condition and quality of casting.
