Colours and some gold on paper. India, Rajasthan, early 19th cent.
Ninth page from an annual cycles (month June – July). Finely painted depiction of a palace, with a dark-blue deity Krishna next to a nayika inside; he is holding a white flower out towards her. On the other side is another dame on a terrace. Underneath, a bearded ascetic in a cave. In the foreground are rows of trees with white herons, and in front of them, a lotus pond with a large lotus flower in the center. On it, again Krishna, lying down and receiving a foot massage from a woman. Behind his head is a naga. With floral-vines and painted frame. Very good condition, faults on the outermost edges, which are covered by the passe-partout.
