Yellow bronze. India, 19th cent.
Very neat small bronze depicting the boy Krishna, the eighth incarnation of the high god Vishnu, standing on a round base in the well-known flute-playing pose. Krishna played the flute when he was with the cow-hearding girls who performed their dances for him during the autumn nights. The small flute is missing, nevertheless, the hand pose is expressive and characteristic. With good patina.
