Description
first edition, signed and inscribed by the author "Miss Bramwell's copy of a poor book Gordon Craig 1957" on half-title and with A.Pc.s. of Vence to Miss Bramwell loosely inserted, illustrations, original cloth-backed pictorial boards, spine gilt, dust-jacket, very slightly rubbed at corners but an excellent copy, [F & R A35(a)], 8vo, Hulton Press, 1957. Craig's memoirs, covering the first part of his life from 1872 to 1907. He always intended to write another volume, beginning with Florence and his life with Elena and the children, but Elena died suddenly in late 1957 and he could not face it. Miss Bramwell was Craig's housekeeper. The postcard shows an aerial view of Vence, a hill town in the South of France where EGC lived for the last fourteen years of his life. A later pencil note in Edward Craig's hand reads, "Hosp. in which Craig died".
