Description
Edo, Snow on Narihara Bridge in Honjo, Courtesans of the Arimaya, Clamseller Yokichi, and Onogawa Kisaburo, No. 41 from the series: Snow, Moon, Flowers

Poignant image of the young clamseller Yokichi kneeling in the snow outside the Arimaya brothel. After learning that his beloved sister Otaki had committed suicide after being sold into prostitution, he traveled to Arimaya to learn more about her fate. He wipes a tear from his eye as the courtesans look down at him with expressions of concern. In the inset above, Otaki's cat has become a monster after her death and the samurai Onogawa Kisaburo fights off the creature with a sword. A moving story, illustrated with beautiful color and shimmering touches of mica in the dark night sky of the inset.
