Description
Omi, Autumn Moon over Ishiyama, Murasaki Shikibu, No. 1 from the series: Snow, Moon, Flowers
Lovely woodblock of Lady Murasaki Shikibu, the eleventh-century author of the famous Tale of Genji. She stands on the verandah of the Buddhist temple at Ishiyama where she began writing the story, looking out over a beautiful fall moon with geese flying above the lake. The inset above features a lovely view of Lake Biwa looking toward Mt. Hiei, with the pagoda of the temple at Ishiyama just visible. Nice wood grain detail in the evening sky, a sign of an early print. Beautifully drawn and colored, with delicate embossing on the white kimono.
12 7/8 x 8 3/8 + margins
