Description
Shinano Province, Moon over Rice Fields, Mochizuki Saemon, Inspector Ozawa, Yasuda's wife Shiragiku and Hanawakamaru, No. 26 from the series: Snow, Moon, Flowers
Fantastic woodblock design of a lion dance performance during the Noh play Mochizuki. The beautiful Lady Shiragiku and her young son Hanawakamaru watch with interest from the side of the stage, while Inspector Ozawa dozes in back. The actor lunges forward wearing a dramatic flowing red wig, his voluminous costume swirling around him. This dance was performed for former U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant during his 1879 visit to Tokyo. The inset above features a lovely landscape of a full moon reflected in the rice fields of Sarashino. A dynamic image and a great choice for a collector interested in Noh Theater.
